International and national internship and traineeship programs were
launched in 1999. Five Turkish and two international trainees participated
the program thus far. For our international program ASAM cooperates with
the European Law Students Association (ELSA).

ASAM-UNHCR Joint Refugee Children Project called “Happy Corner” launched
its activities as of January 26, 1999. With this project, more than 1000
children were assisted with constant supply of food and beverages that
have been handed by our more than 30 volunteers.

ASAM’s second-hand clothing campaign is continuing with constant
support from different institutions and individuals like German Embassy,
American Embassy, Ankara Women’s Club. In addition to that, so far more
than 900 asylum seekers and refugees were given social and legal counseling.

ASAM’s most notable contribution has been supplying information from
different sources (UNHCR, IOM, MOI Press Office, ICRC, IFRC, Amnesty International,
Human Rights Watch, NATO, various media agencies) to national and international
organisations, embassies, media institutions such as Flying Broom (one
of the most notable women’s human rights NGO in Turkey), TRT Voice of Turkey,
Turkishe Allgemeine, Aktüel, Evrensel, Sabah, ECRE, Swiss Embassy,
American Embassy, Norwegian Embassy, etc.

ASAM launched its Aid Campaign for Kosovar Refugees in Turkey. Cash
and in-kind are accepted and distributed according to the related regulation
of the Ministry of Interior. Thus far, following items were received and
distributed to the Kosovar refugees:
- Major DOLE Bananas Importer Company Sprinter Inc. approached ASAM for
a joint campaign, part of whose income will be sent to ASAM Kosovo Appeal.
During the campaign, different media event was held and ASAM’s bimonthly
journal Umuda Dogru (Towards Hope) special Kosovo Issue was distributed
throughout 70 different campaign locations.
- German Embassy donated a van full of clothing
- Embassy of the United States of America donated four van full of
clothing, toys, sports equipment, Embassy of the USA and British Embassy
School sent toys and clothing
- A number of individual contributions of clothing
- Ankara Women’s Club donated 405 million TRL. worth of needed sanitary
items (30 packages of diapers, hygienic pad for women, cologne, soaps,
sanitary napkins, milk bottles, baby clothing, sun block)

For the repatriation, ASAM have rendered the following:
- Arranging an office for the registration of Kosovar refugees in Istanbul.
- Organising the modalities of the seminar for the registration officers
in Istanbul.
- Preparing and having rendered the iron-on UNHCR T-shirts.
- Personnel assistance to the repatriation process.
